Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???? Cooking bacon in the oven?! That’s preposterous!!! Nope. That’s amazing!
I do not cook bacon regularly.
1. Partially because I can’t ever stop eating it.
2. And the other part is because it is such a ridiculous mess to clean up.
During my years in culinary school we had to make bacon for hundreds and hundreds of people day in and day out. You better believe we did not fry them in a pan in small batches. No. It was here that I learned how to cook bacon in the oven. Yes. The oven. And it was fabulous, crispy perfection.
How’s that? Does the gorgeous crispy bacon have your attention yet? This is what perfectly cooked bacon dreams are made of.
Here is the great thing…there is not recipe. There is just a very simple technique.
Take a baking sheet and cover them with foil or parchment for easier clean-up. Then lay a cooling rack on top of the baking sheet. Take your bacon and lay it out o the baking rack making sure the bacon does not overlap.
Place into a COLD oven. This is CRUCIAL. Turn on the oven to 400-degrees. As the oven warms up, the bacon fat will slowly start rendering out. Leaving a crispier and perhaps slightly healthier bacon. Perhaps.
In about 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of your bacon and the strength of your oven, you will have perfect, glorious bacon.
Munch on it as a snack, serve it for a filling Sunday breakfast, use it on flatbreads, sandwiches or my absolute favorite… burgers .
