Every once in awhile…I get a bad dessert craving.  It sometimes literally just takes over me and all my thoughts become consumed with creamy chocolate and gooey caramels…

Typically, I run wild through my pantry during this time, trying to satisfy my craving.  The problem is, since I do not keep any sweets in the house, I end up eating Nutella.  Straight. From. The. Jar.  And I don’t stop.

This is no bueno.  Because, before I know it… I feel sick and the jar is halfway empty 🙁  And as I lay on the couch quietly grumbling to myself, I suddenly feel the need to burn through those hundreds of Nutella calories.  And my evening ends with me madly running up and down the stairs in an attempt to destroy some of those evily delicious calories.

Totally not how I wanted to spend my evening.

So recently, I discovered this new trend of mug cakes.

It’s actually quite brilliant.

I can have a little sweet something that isn’t nearly as bad for me as half a jar of Nutella in 5 minutes!  Without ever turning on my oven.

I think that’s pretty sweet. (pun intended)

I got the idea to combine Nutella, chocolate and caramels from this sweet little cookie recipe.

Melted caramel and gooey Nutella are pretty much a lethal combination.  And I intend to use it, ruthlessly and frequently.

We start by combining the Nutella, flour, salt, sugar, milk, cocoa and baking powder, oil and eggs in a microwave safe mug.

Whisk it all up with a fork so everything is nicely combined.  Now push your caramels deep inside the mixture.

Place in the microwave for 2 minutes and thirty seconds.  My microwave gets pretty hot.  So for me this is the ideal time.  It’s just enough for a set top and a gooey center.

Sprinkle some powdered sugar, add some whip cream or ice cream and dig in.  I usually share this with my hubby as a perfectly sized dessert for 2.  I have made this as a last minute dessert when guests came over and they were floored that something this magically delicious was made in no time and in the microwave!
