Fudgy Nutella Brownies

Get ready for the gooeyest, fudgiest ULTIMATE brownie. Fudgy Nutella brownies my dear friends is what all chocolate dreams are made of.

Yup that’s right…The Nutella Chronicles.  A brand new addition to the blog.  It’s a slew of recipes featuring the ultimate nutty and creamy spread: Nutella.  Just the word is beautiful isn’t it?

Don’t judge…but even talking about Nutella makes me need it…and…Yup I just did it… I just ran to my pantry and licked the last of the Nutella out of a jar..and I fought off some majorly dirty looks from the hubby… Sorry hubs, I totally needed that…for um… motivation.

Moving on…

In this chapter of the Nutella Chronicles I present to you ooey, gooey, so very fudgy Nutella Brownies.  My God are they heaven.  They were melty, chewy, smooth, creamy…I kind of wish I had not eaten that last bit of Nutella…could have used it right now.

Ahhh there they are.

Get ready for the gooeyest, fudgiest ULTIMATE brownie. Fudgy Nutella brownies my dear friends is what all chocolate dreams are made of.

I have always dreamed of making perfect brownies.  And these SO were!  And I have the awesome Karly from Buns in My Oven to thank for them!  I just happened to be Pintersting one night when I stopped dead in my scrolling tracks and stared at her gorgeous photo of her Nutella brownies.  Salivation ensued.

The next day, which just so happened to be Christmas Eve I whipped these bad boys up for a Christmas party I was attending.  Yea. They stole the show.  Kids went crazy for them and adults fought over them.  No really…they fork fought over each morsel.  Imagine 10 inebriated Russians stabbing at an empty dish with their forks…all swearing in each other in profanities of varying degrees as they accidentally stab each other instead of a remaining brownie crumb. Yes, I know, my evenings are hillllarious.

Hilarious or not, these are delicious.

These brownies further encouraged my Nutella addiction and allowed for the creation of other Nutella treats such as my Nutella Banana French Toast:

And these incredible Nutella and Cheesecake Muffins:

I pretty much followed Karly’s recipe exactly with the exception of three things.

1. I added 2 tbsp of brewed espresso.  I always add espresso to chocolate desserts.  Especially cakes and brownies.  I find it really intensifies the taste of the chocolate.

2. I added an additional 1/4 cup of Nutella.  I figured if some was good, more was better!  Other than that I followed her recipe and I think I did it justice 🙂

3. I removed one of the eggs and added in an egg white instead.  I found it made it less dense and more gooey.

Also, do not cut into it (no matter how tempting) until it is completely cool.  Or else it will crumble as you cool it…trust me on this one, I tried.

Now go grab yourself a glass of milk and go bite into one of these babies…they will blow. Your. Mind.

Nutella Fudge Brownies…25 Days of Holiday Treats

  • Author: Mila Furman

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 1/4 cups cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tsp espresso
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 10 ounce package Milk Chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Butter a 9×13 baking dish.
  3. In small saucepan over low heat, melt butter completely. Stir in sugar and continue for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Do not allow sugar mixture to boil.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the Nutella until well combined.
  5. Pour butter mixture into a large bowl or stand mixer and beat in cocoa powder, espresso, eggs, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  6. Stir in the flour and chocolate chips until just combined.
  7. Spread into prepared pan (batter will be very thick and sticky) and bake for about 30-35 minutes, until a tester comes out mostly clean. The edges should be set and the center should still look slightly moist, but not uncooked. Depending on the oven and the size of the pan you use, sometimes it can take all the way up to 50-60 minutes.
  8. Cool on a wire rack.

    1. Kirsten! Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I love seeing comments first thing when I wake up in the morning 🙂
I am thrilled to see you here!

  2. These look amazing and I hope to make them today. However the only thing I do not have is the espresso. Is there anything I can do to substitute? I have a Keurig, so anything that can be made with that I can get. Please let me know. I am thrilled to try these 🙂

    1. Hi there!!! Thanks so much for stopping by! Yes you can use regular strong coffee without a problem 🙂 enjoy! Would love to hear how they turn out!

  3. These were really good brownies. Think, rich and gooey. But……in my opinion, you really couldn’t taste the nutella. Either there was not enough, or most likely, the chocolate chips masked the taste. I think that is more the issue. I used Ghiradelli chips, which are more of a “gourmet” chip, and the flavor really pops. I used the required amount and that is all I could taste in the brownie. I think next time I will use 1c of nutella and omit the chips and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, great go to fudge brownie recipe. Thanks.

    1. Thanks for the feedback!!!! I think the Nutella also acts as a gooeying agent 🙂 be careful adding more in as you may throw off the balance in the equation and they may not cook right. But that’s what baking and cooking is! Experiments!

  4. Thank you for posting this! I was so happy to see this recipe and they turned out great!! I also added dollops of nutella on top of the mixture before baking…awesome!

  5. Hi I must tell you first I love your ideas and recipes I always find this to be my new go to when I want something good to make 🙂 ok my QUESTION is I read where u said u omit 1 egg and use a white so is it 2 whites and 1 whole egg?

    1. Hi Teresa thank you for your warm compliments 🙂 so glad I can be your go to gal :). Follow the recipe exactly 🙂 3 eggs and 1 egg white

  6. Hi mila!!!

I tried this recipe the other day and it was absolutely amazing, however it took a very long time to bake. I was just wondering whether the 350degrees you suggested was in fahrenheit, as a converted it to celcius and had to bake it for 2 hours!? ?

    1. Yes it is in Farenheight. Did you use a very short pan?if the pan was short and deep then the mixture would have been thicker. Also you may want to recalibrate your oven… Let me know if you need any other help or have more question

  7. You say to use 3/4 of a cup of Nutella. What size jar do you use and how does that work out if you were to go by the amount in the jar? So 1/3? 1/4? I’m excited about attempting these next week for my birthday 🙂

    1. Hi Gemma! I have a huge 6.5 pound tub 🙂 So I actually measure it with a measure cup! Roughly, 3/4 of a cup is equivalent to 6oz so the typical Nutella jar is typically 14 oz. So you would use roughly half. Good luck and I can’t wait to hear all about your brownies!

    1. Amber! It’s my favorite go-to dessert! Make sure to check out my other Nutella desserts on here if you are as huge a Nutella Nut as me!!

  8. Oh… Nutella, how I love thee. I can only imagine what chocolate goodness these brownies are. Definitely adding this to my must make list.

Thanks for sharing (I found you through #FoodieFridays hop).

    Wishing you a lovely weekend.
    xoxo

  9. Hi I am hoping to try out this recipe soon. Before that, I have got few queries:

    a) did you use powdered sugar or granulated?
    b) In point number 5 you used the word “beat”, that means using electric beater, right?
    c) further in instruction no.5 did you follow certain order to include ingredients in the mixture like first the eggs and then the cocoa and baking powder.

    TIA

    1. Sadaf, I used granulated sugar and yes by beating I mean with an electric mixer. Feel free to do this by hand if you like but I find it’s way easier to let the electric mixer do the work. And you can go ahead and add the ingredients in any order 🙂 I hope I helped 🙂

  10. Once I’ve heated the butter and sugar and added the Nutella should I allow it to cool off before adding the eggs ?

  11. Hi! This recipe sounds amazing and is exactly what I’m looking for, thank you so much! Would it still be ok if I omit the chocolate chips and substitute with (even more) nutella? If yes, how much extra nutella should I add?

  12. Hello! this recipe sounds so yummy. was wondering if i could substitute the butter with vegetable oil? and if this recipe also works using steamer instead of oven? many thanks

    1. Hi Stephanie… I have never done any baking in the steamer so I would not know if that would work. In terms of the vegetable oil, you can, but I really don’t recommend it. Butter gives it a much nicer texture and flavor.

  13. I am going to try this today! So excited. However i will use Black Nescafe powder instead of Espresso, as I do not have espresso. 🙂

      1. They were a huge success! Everyone loved it! Even though i used only half the amount of choco chips cause i ran out. Family, friends, and colleagues are waiting until i do it again! 🙂

        1. Sara just saw this!!! I am so glad it turned out! I am actually making a batch tonight for a catering event this weekend!

  14. These are THE most delicious brownies I have ever made! My whole family loved them and they were amazingly fudgy! Thank you so much x

  15. I used less cocoa powder as last time I made these the powder made them too strong, however they be been cooking for over 40 minutes and the inside is still gooey? Why is this?

    1. Hi there Daisy! I do not believe the cocoa powder would have made too large of a difference in your cooking time. However, what can make a difference is the baking vessel and the strength of your oven. I have a convection oven so it does cook a bit faster! If it’s super gooey just let it bake a bit longer. Let me know how it turns out!

  16. Im goingg to try these tomorrow hopefully iA. I tried a nutella brownie recipe before but didnt really turn out good. They werent moist from the inside and werent very soft and chocolatey too. :l
The sugar i used before was caster, does that make a difference? Also folding the flour is also technical?
    Hoping for a reply.

    1. These are chewy and super moist!!! The sugar will not make a difference. However, with flour make sure you ONLY mix until it is well combined. Over mixing will encourage a dry and crumbly mix which you do not want. The cooking time may vary depending on the oven and the container that you bake it in. I use a convection oven so mine is faster. However, as long as a toothpick comes out clean when you poke it in the center, you are all good!

  17. Hello! I tried this yesterday and it turned out perfect! I did not use an electric mixer but hand mixed it instead (very sticky). While mixing it, I tasted it and it was a little bitter. I added extra lines/drizzles of nutella on top and did not use the choco chips. You are right, it is gooey/chewy outside and moist inside. This is my first time to leave a reply in a food site or blog. I have to thank you and let you know that it turned out great. THANK YOU.

    1. Daiver!!! Thank you for your wonderful comments!!! I love hearing that!! I hope that I see more of your comments on here 🙂

  18. Hi Mila, brownies look sinfully amazing. I am planning to make this tomorrow, can I cut down on the sugar to 1.5 cup??? Would this change the texture?

        1. Hi Mila, such a wonderful brownie recipe, turned out very well, soft and gooey, definitely a keeper. Thanks for sharing. x

  19. hi there thanks for the great recipe cant wait to make it… i planned to use your recipe for surprise anniversary to my boyfriends…. i will let u know after i make it btw can i ask u something? if i reduce the sugar could it effect the texture of brownies? cause my boyfriend didnt like too sweet… thanks for the advise really appreciate that 🙂 lots of love

    1. Hi darling!!!! So your boyfriend will love this!!! IT IS very sweet. I think you can definitely decrease the sugar by 1/4 cup…although it may effect it just a tad but not THAT much. If I were you I would serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream 🙂 I find something cold always balances out the something sweet…that or I may be a complete weirdo 🙂

  20. Yum so delicious, everyone loved it! Although I used chocolate bits instead of chocolate chips still tasted the same I will defenately make them again!

    1. Thats so fantastic! I am so glad you loved it! And I bet it was even better texture with this chocolate bits!

  21. This is an amazing recipe! For years ive looked for a brownie recipe like this. The brownies came out great, they are huge, fudgey and delicious! I followed the recipe almost exact except not adding espresso because I didn’t have on hand. Make these!!! Thank you for an accurate recipe.
