Nutella Banana Bread

Moist, tender banana bread permeated with incredible silky swirls of Nutella.  This is breakfast gone sinful!

Nutella Banana Bread from the Girl and the Kitchen

On Sunday mornings I find myself barely able to lift my head off the pillow when the munchkin starts screaming out “Maaammmmaaaaaaaaa.”  With one eye still glued with sleep I mosey over to her room only to be greeted by the cutest grin with two white teeth and arms wide open waiting to embrace me and entice me out of my slumber. After a diaper change we walk hand in hand down the stairs, ensuring to count every single stair along the way.  Then munchkin gets a glimpse of the kitty and off she goes running after her for a morning kiss.

This past Sunday morning, as I walked through my kitchen to crank up my trustee Nespresso machine for my double cappuccino… I noticed an entire family of fruit flies sitting on top of my already brown bananas.

As I sipped my cappuccino I thought of the tenacious amount of energy it would take out of me to create something out of these very sad looking bananas.  I spaced out momentarily and thought how wonderful it would be though for my house to be filled with lovely smells of banana and vanilla on this beautiful (and early) Sunday morning.

I was jerked out of my banana filled thoughts by the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song that munchkin was already fist pumping to.

As I was mixing up munchkin’s creamy mashed potatoes for breakfast I spotted my 6.5 pound tub of Nutella peaking out of my pantry.  I hid it away after I made these decadent little devils…and could not stop myself from inhaling almost half the batch and thousands of calories.

But I think I am detoxed enough for it to make it’s guest appearance in another one of my Nutella Chronicles…

You can smear Nutella on anything…but Nutella and bananas is a pretty magical combination.

And that’s exactly what I did.

So this loaf was SUPPOSED to be marbled…but my artistic skills aren’t nearly as good as I thought…that or I’m better at making strange horseshoe type shapes.

Whatever.

It was amazingly yummy.  And that’s all that really matters.

Hubs hates it when I bake…because he has no self control and decides to cut slivers for himself off of whatever I make…until there is only a sliver left…

He took a sliver off of this and said…”mmmmmm super creamy, moist and yet still cripsy…and it has a flavorful in there I can’t figure out.”  BTW…he continued cutting slivers…

That would be the Nutella 🙂 Nothing is as good as Nutella…

Oh and guys…You can totally whip this up the night before and then just put the batter in the fridge ready to bake in the morning.

But in all honesty…it takes minutes to whip up…and you can easily do everything in one bowl!

First preheat your oven to 350-degrees.

Gather all your ingredients..eggs, butter, Nutella, baking powder, milk, vanilla and smushed bananas.  I just used my paddle attachment in the mixer to mush em’ up really quickly…Since everything was going to end up in that bowl anyhow 🙂

Add in all your ingredients EXCEPT the Nutella.  Once combined, remove two cups of the non-Nutella mixture.  Once removed add in your Nutella to the mixture IN the bowl and combine.

Grab a loaf pan that has been lined with parchment paper and buttered up!  Trust me…this is essential…your bread will literally slide out.  And I like to do it like you see below with the edges sticking out.  That way when it’s baked I just lift the paper and I can move the loaf to a cooling rack much easier.

Now place the whole amount of Nutella batter in the pan and just drop the non-Nutella batter in there leaving room in between.  Then take a long skewer (wooden or metal) or butter knife and swirl around.  That’s how you get that marble look!  I kind of failed at it this time around 🙂

Place into the oven for 55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.  Then lift the parchment up and the bread will come with it 🙂  Allow to cool on cooling rack for 5-10 minutes.  Then slice and enjoy.

I took this deliciousness to work with me to get it out of the house…it was vacuumed up by hungry mouth in a matter of minutes.  No complaints here.

  1. Mila, everything on your blog looks so delicious! I’m pretty sure I had the Micky Mouse Clubhouse theme song stuck in my head for most of 2011, so I can definitely relate. 😉 I’ll be making this nutella banana bread for my kiddos (who am I kidding, and for ME) soon!! YUM!

    1. Natasha, I am so sorry this did not work out for you. I personally know that when I bake a great deal of strange things can happen so maybe the oven did not calibrate or perhaps the leavening agents just did not work out. I do hope you give it another try and I will gladly help you out in any way I can.
